A LITTLE GUIDE
How do you play the online piano?
The white keys repeat the notes C, D, E, F, G, A and B. The black keys play the sharps and flats in between. In the wide key layout, the bottom row (Z–M) and the top row (Q–U) play two different octaves; in the classic layout, A–K are the white keys and W E T Y U the black keys. Use ← and → to change octave, and ↑ and ↓ to transpose. On a phone, slide your finger across the keys for a glissando, and drag the map at the top to move around all 88 keys.
First exercise: C–D–E–F–G
Set the metronome to 80 BPM. Play C, D, E, F, G with one note on each click, then come back down. Focus on keeping the notes even first.

Online piano: notes, how to use it and first exercises
How do you play the online piano?
Click the keys with a mouse or press them with your fingers on a touch screen; you can play chords with several fingers. On a computer keyboard, in the wide layout the bottom row (Z–M) and the top row (Q–U) play two octaves and the Space bar is the sustain pedal. ← and → change the octave, ↑ and ↓ transpose.
The sounds come from real piano recordings; until they have downloaded, the first notes play straight away with a sound synthesized in the browser.
Basic piano notes
The white keys repeat seven notes in order: C, D, E, F, G, A, B (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si in solfège). The black keys come in groups of two and three and give the sharps and flats in between.
C is the white key just left of a group of two black keys.
F is the white key just left of a group of three black keys.
The C near the middle of the keyboard is “middle C” (C4, about 261.6 Hz).
Notes get lower to the left and higher to the right; the distance between two notes with the same name is an octave.

Exercises for beginners
Find every C on the keyboard: the white key left of each group of two black keys.
Put the right-hand thumb (finger 1) on C and play C–D–E–F–G with fingers 1-2-3-4-5, then come back down.
Set the metronome to 60–80 BPM and play one note on every click. Keep the notes even before you speed up.
Switch the note names off and repeat the same exercise.
