Learning goal

Knows the valves and air for C, D, E, F and G, and plays the five-note row correctly in both directions.

Topic

Five notes, five steps. Today you climb the whole staircase from C to G!

Prior knowledge

Can play F (1) and E (1+2).

Teacher note

C is played with slow air; D, E, F and G with medium air. D uses valves 1 and 3 together. Point out that the air speed changes when you go from C to D. In ‘No hints’ mode the valve marks are hidden; a hint appears after two mistakes.

Lesson steps

  1. New note D: hold valves 1 and 3 and use medium air.
  2. No valves, slow air: C.
  3. Five steps up: from C to G.
  4. Now five steps down.
  5. Mixed notes: play the note whose name you see.
