Learning goal

Plays A (1+2), B (2) and high C with fast air, and performs an original song from C to high C with the right notes and in tempo.

Topic

High notes are the brightest sounds of the trumpet. Today you’ll play a song with them!

Prior knowledge

Can play C to G and read quarter and half notes.

Teacher note

A, B and high C are played with fast air. On a real trumpet, high notes need faster, narrower air rather than more air; don’t push students too hard. ‘Morning Call’ is an original 12-note song. The last step is scored in tempo.

Lesson steps

  1. Hold valves 1 and 2 and use FAST air: A.
  2. Only valve 2, FAST air: B.
  3. The high staircase: G, A, B, C.
  4. Play the note whose name you see.
  5. Morning Call
  6. Morning Call · in tempo
