Learning goal

Keeps longer and longer bass drum and snare sequences in their listening memory and plays them back in the right order.

Topic

Your ears are like a recorder: listen, keep it, play it back!

Prior knowledge

Can tell the bass drum and the snare apart by ear.

Teacher note

In this game the order matters, not the timing, so students can play without hurrying. In the first chain the pads light up; in the second there is only sound. After a mistake the chain is played again.

Lesson steps

  1. Watch and listen, then play it in the same order. The chain gets longer every round!
  2. Now the pads won’t light up: only your ears!
